Sal's Story

From Chalatenango, El Salvador to Bartlesville, OK
Sal started his humble beginnings in life as a young boy baking and selling bread with his mother Ernestina on the streets in Chalatenango, El Salvador. Sal’s mother taught him the importance working hard, taking heart, and pouring love into the food they made together. Growing up with ten siblings and selling bread was much more than offsetting family expenses, the love of baking bread with love was life.

When Sal was sixteen years old, war broke out in his hometown, so his father Lorenzo gave Sal his life savings, for Sal to transition to the United States. Upon Sal’s arrival, Sal worked as a cook for eleven years in San Francisco before moving to Oklahoma in 1990. Landing in Oklahoma Sal had many jobs including being a janitor for the Bartlesville Public Schools, Pawhuska Schools, and even mowing lawns in between jobs. Sal would commonly start his day at 4am, with most days coming to an end at 11pm. Sal has raised his family in Bartlesville, and understands the importance of making memories with family.

In 2000, Sal’s Daylight Donuts was established where Sal was able to bring his humble beginnings, passion, and love of baking bread to the Bartlesville Community. Whether your eating sausage wraps, cajun pies, or biscuits and gravy the love you’ll taste is palatable. Every Donut produced at Sal’s is hand crafted, and with every bite, you’ll taste the donut love, keeping you coming back for more.
