From Chalatenango, El Salvador to Bartlesville, OK
Sal’s journey began with humble roots. As a young boy in Chalatenango, El Salvador, he worked alongside his mother, Ernestina, baking and selling bread on the streets. In those early years, Sal learned not just the craft of baking, but the deeper lessons of hard work, resilience, and the importance of pouring love into everything they made. Growing up in a household of ten siblings, baking wasn’t just a way to support the family — it was a way of life, filled with love and togetherness.
At the age of sixteen, war disrupted Sal’s peaceful life in his hometown. His father, Lorenzo, gave him his life savings and encouraged Sal to pursue a better future in the United States. Sal arrived in America with determination, working as a cook for eleven years in San Francisco before making his way to Oklahoma in 1990.
In Oklahoma, Sal wore many hats. He worked as a janitor for the Bartlesville Public Schools, the Pawhuska Schools, and took on various odd jobs, including mowing lawns in between. His days often began at 4 a.m. and stretched late into the night, sometimes ending at 11 p.m. Through it all, Sal raised his family in Bartlesville, cherishing the importance of creating lasting memories with loved ones.
In 2000, Sal took the leap and opened Sal’s Daylight Donuts in Bartlesville, where he could share his passion for baking with his community. Bringing his humble beginnings, his dedication, and his love of food into every creation, Sal’s Daylight Donuts became a local favorite. From sausage wraps and Cajun pies to biscuits and gravy, each bite carries the love and care Sal pours into his work. Every donut at Sal’s is hand-crafted, and the “donut love” is so rich that once you taste it, you’ll keep coming back for more.
Psalms 92:1-2: "It is good to praise the Lord and make music to your name, O Most High, proclaiming your love in the morning and your faithfulness at night."
